Programs

We believe utilizing a social equity framework with respect to public policy decisions related to cannabis legalization is essential to the creation of a strong and viable marijuana industry.  Both government and private industry bear responsibility in creating an industry that does NO harm. Marijuana Matters seeks a collaborative and mutually beneficial relationship with cannabis consumers, policymakers, industry leaders, and advocacy communities to meet the intended outcomes of our work. We call this intersectionality.

Our programming is defined by three pillars.

Education

Marijuana Matters identifies and engages cannabis industry stakeholders including those with marijuana related criminal charges and individuals from communities disproportionately impacted by the harmful war on drugs. Through our signature #WCW weekly panels, bi weekly Green Light Blog and consumer focus groups we provide a broad-spectrum of information based on jurisdiction specific, marijuana legalization policies and community impact. To stay up to date on the latest news and developments surrounding the cannabis industry, read our blog.

Advocacy

Ultimately, our success is determined by our ability to ensure those most harmed by the war on drugs benefit the most from its decriminalization. It is not enough to only look forward, we also have to look back at the 50+ years of racially bias and discriminatory polices and practices. Policies that have led to the incarceration of millions of whom now must contend with significant penalties associated with more than 40,000 collateral consequences. Marijuana Matters hosts and convenes on a regular basis stakeholders from the community, industry and government in support of establish social equity in cannabis framework as a best practice.

Entrepreneurship

The Marijuana Matters Fund works with people to build their individual capacity as business owners. We leverage our credibility, networks, connections to accelerate opportunities for those individuals from historically disadvantaged communities.
