Official Statement from Marijuana Matters in Response to Chairman Mendelson’s Emergency Legislation that could shut down unregulated cannabis operators

Our organization is committed to supporting policies that create pathways for black and brown entrepreneurs to enter the legal medical and adult-use cannabis industries. Chairman Mendelson’s bill makes necessary updates to the medical program like allowing residents to self-certify which we support. However, we believe that the civil penalties that will begin in 30 days will have unintended consequences for landlords and patrons. DC council must continue to work with medical dispensary owners and members of the I-71 community to ensure that we're creating an equitable industry that does no more harm.

Mendelson is calling for an emergency legislative hearing on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. You can click here to read more.
